[Discussion] "ANOTHER Y2K (2000-YEN) PROBLEM" (Atsushi CHIBA)

Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi announced that the government had a plan to issue a \2,000 bill by July of this year. It will not be a commemorative venture but a permanent addition to the range of Japanese bank notes.

The bill will feature a view of the Shurei-no-mon at Shuri Castle. The gate is a well-known and loved landmark among Okinawa's ancient structures. The back will future a scene from the Tale of Genji, a landmark in Japanese classical literature.

The new bill will appear to coincide when the summit convenes in Okinawa in the year 2000, the first year of the new millennium. It will have been 42 years since a bill of a new value was introduced. The \10,000 bill was the last.

The prime minister played down the strangeness of having a bill with numeral 2.He pointed out that the United States issues $20 bill.

Some analysts say that the new bank note will not have a dramatic impact on the economy. The others say that it could have economic benefits.
It is hard to say whether the new bill is welcome or not. Is it really necessary? Why is it 2000-yen? Why is it introduced now? ...

Let's talk about the new 2000-yen bill, and make another new bill that you want.
