6月28日 プラクティス

Dear Kyoto NHK ESS members.

Let me introduce the practice planned on 6/28/2014.

Genre: talk
Title : Let’s enjoy “warp” ( time-travel ) !!
( Note : “warp” means traveling in the time-machine. )

Do you remember a movie called “ Back to the Future “ , “Terumae Romae” or TV drama “ Jin” ?
In this practice, you will warp in the future or warp back into the past in the time-machine.
Theoretically, you can’t warp back in the past. But in this practice, you can warp back with a couple of conditions.
1. Grandfather paradox is not allowed ( you can’t change you who you are today )
2. You can’t bring anything with you. Just meet and talk. If possible you can do anything to change the history.

Please talk about the following situations in your team ( ~ 6:20 )
1. What year in the future do you want to warp ? Why?
2. What do you see in the future? ( as much detail as possible )
3. What year/age/era do you want to warp back in the past? Why?
4. Who did you meet and what did you talk ?
5. What did you do to change the history? Then, what could be the new history you have changed?
( please continue as time permitted )

At the end of the talk, please pick out a couple of warp stories 1) In the past 2) In the future in your team and
introduce them to all. ( 6:20-6:40 )

Enjoy warp with your imaginative power !!

Title: Globalization

Description

[Step. 0]

Make some groups and make pairs in each group. If you don’t have partner, please find a partner in other group. If there is no partner in all groups, I will become your partner.

[Step. 1]

I will give you a topic. Please ask a question about the topic each other for about 5 or 8 minutes. I’m a timekeeper. About 5 or 8 minutes later, I will request to change your partner and give you another topics again. Please start conversation again and repeat like this style for about 30 minutes. Please obey the following rules.

At first, one person asks one question.

The other person answer and explain his/her answer and ask his/her question.

You must not dominate conversation by your only talking.

I’ll choose topics below

International business language or English

Travel

Japan or Japanese

Transportation or Air plane

Communication technology or Cellular phone

Olympic or World Exposition (EXPO)

Race or Language

8. Knowledge or Science or Technology(Engineering)

Ex. Topic : English

A “Did you like English lesson when you were in junior high or high school?”

B “No, I didn’t. Because Japanese education emphasize reading writing and grammar.

They were boring for me. How about you? Did you like English lesson?

A “Of course, I liked it very much. Because my English teacher was a young female

teacher. She was cute and clever. She spoke English so fluently like native speaker

and taught English very well. Do you use English in your business? ”

B “Yes, I sometimes have to read a thesis or paper written in English. And I have some chances to discuss technology with foreign engineers. Have you travel foreign countries in your business?”

A ・・・・・

[Step. 2]

Please gather in each group. There are some effects of globalization on the environment, culture, the economy and human well-being and so on. Choose one category and talk about effect of globalization under your choosing category. I hope that you explain both positive and negative effects. You can choose the sample categories below. But you don’t need to stick to the samples.

Environment Culture Economy Human well-being Education Religion

Science Sport Art Music Literature etc.

Ex.

I choose economy.

Positive effect: More companies are now able to sell their products in foreign countries.

Negative effect: Weak industry in each country is beaten by foreign country.

I hope you enjoy.
