What's New at Kyoto NHK ESS?

This is an announcement of the practice on 13th September.

Genre: Role playing game

Title: Let’s play doctors and patients!

I guess any of you has experience playing doctor once or twice in your childhood.

But was it in English? This time, I’d like you to play it in English in more practical situations.

I’ll attach some materials to this email in advance that explain how to complain your symptoms

to your doctor and the names of diseases.

I hope this practice will help you see a doctor when necessary over the sea.

Description:

17:40-18:00

1 Make 4 to 6 groups. (Each group has even numbered members)

2 Make pairs in a group.

3 One plays a doctor and another plays a patient in a pair.

4 Change your partner when you finish your roles, both of a doctor and patient.　

18:30-18:40　

5 Give a presentation to all the members which was the most interesting or funniest dialog in your group.

Title: love letter to a famous person

Description:
1. Make 6 groups.
2. I hand out cards on which names of famous people are written.
3. Play rock-paper-scissors (janken) and decide the order to choose a card to write a letter.
4. Choose a card you want to write a love letter.
5. Write a love letter. (10min.)
6. Read aloud your love letters to other members.
7. Repeat from 3 to 6 until 18:20 .
8. Select the best letter of your group and announce it

Please teach your favorite proverbs, mottoes or phrases which are/were useful in the situation below with some experiences or background information if possible. Please keep in your mind, these are not limited to popular one or words of celebrities. Your original and unique mottoes or phrases are welcomed!

4. First parson who draw a card talks about the news for 2minites.
5. Talk together about it for 5minites .
6. Second parson draw a card and talks in like wise.
7. Repeat from 4 to 6 until 18:25.
8. Select the best news of your group and announce it

This is an announcement of the practice on October 18th.

Genre:Talk
Title :What would you do?

Here is the process.

1. Make some groups.
2. I will give you some questions.
3. The first speaker chooses one question and speaks about it.
4. Then the other members speak about the same question one by one.
5. The second person chooses a new question after all members finish speaking about the first question.

Then start the second round and continue the same way.

I expect you will enjoy this practice.

Title: Introduction to the TOEFL test

Guideline
The TOEFL test is the most widely respected English-language test in the world.
In this practice, an Integrated Task in the Writing section will be prepared.
This task includes reading, listening and writing, which means total English skills are required to solve.

Procedure
1. Receive papers on which Directions and a sample question are written.
2. Read Directions to understand how you answer the question (about 5 minutes).
3. Read a passage about an academic topic written on the distributed paper (3 minutes).
4. Listen to a lecture about the same topic (about 5minues).
5. Write a response to a question.
