2012-02-25 プラクティス予告

Hi, everyone in ESS

This is Kisei Masayama.

This is information about the practice on Feb 25th; resending after adding another rule in 8th Additional rules in ESS.

Genre : Game
Title : Let's play “Scrabble”.

Description:
1. Making groups & pairs

Make some groups of 8 people and 4 pairs in each group, and then you will
have 4 pairs of player team in each group.

2. Setup

We are now playing cross word board games named Scrabble.

We have a gameboard, a scoring tally & 100 alphabet letter tiles including
2 blank tiles in each group.

The letters (tiles) have different values scoring on their faces.

First, turn all letters facedown at the side of the board and scramble
them.

Then draw 7 letters and place them face up in a row in front of your team.

Determine the first player team.

3. How to play (Let's start fun games with some rules )

The first player team combines two or more of their letters to form a
word, and places it on the board to read either across or down with one
letter on the center ★square.

Diagonal words are not permitted.

A player team completes a turn by counting and announcing the score for
the turn.

The player team then draws as many new letters as played, thus always
keeping 7 letters in their team.

Play passes to the left. The second player team, and then each player team
in turn, adds one or more letters to those already played to form new
words. All letters played in a turn must be placed in one row across or down
the board, to form one complete word. If, at the same time, your team
touches other letters in adjacent rows, your team must form complete words,
crossword fashion, with all such letters.(*1)

New words may be formed by:

a. Adding one or more letters to a word or letters already on the board

b. Placing a word at right angles to a word already on the board.

The new word must use one of the letters already on the board or must
add a letter to it.

c. Placing a complete word parallel to a word already played, so that
adjacent letters also form complete words.

d. Using dictionaries are permitted. All words labeled as a part of
speech (including those listed of foreign origin, and as archaic, obsolete,
colloquial, slang, etc.) are permitted with the exception of the following:
words always capitalized, abbreviations, prefixes and suffixes standing
alone, words requiring a hyphen or an apostrophe.

e. If your team can't form a word, your team will be able to declare
“Pass”.

4. Scoring

Keep a tally of team's score, entering it after each turn.

The score value of a blank is 0 point, but your team can use it as an any
letters.

Your team also gets 0 point in case of declaring "Pass".

Your team gets a double or triple score of the letter

when your team has placed a letter on a double or triple letter score
square.

Your team gets a double or triple score of the word

when your team has placed a word on a double or triple word score square.

Your team gets full points for all words formed or modified on its turn in
case of (*1).

5. How to win

The team with the highest final score wins the game.

In case of a tie, the team with the highest score after deducting inlayed
letters wins.

6. Additional rules in ESS

We have only 70 or 80 minutes to play. So we will finish the games on
time even if your group does not use all of letters up. And count your final
team scores.

Each team has only 3 minutes to form a word in each turn. If your team
can’t form a word in 3 minutes, your team will have to declare “Pass”.

One of your team has to explain the meaning of the word, your team
has just placed on, only once in other words in English in each turn.

7. Recommendation

Book dictionaries are much more useful and convenient than electronic
devices to find new words.

I hope all of you enjoy the games and expand your vocabulary.

Thank you for reading!
