Dear Kyoto NHK-ESS Members,
This is the announcement of the latter half of the practice on October 25th.
1. Genre: About Your Favorite Things(推し活) 2. Title: Talking About Your Favorite Things I'm absolutely hooked on Japanese sake. It's not just about drinking it—my interest extends to the details: classifications, rice varieties, rice polishing ratios, and more. Just recently, I even went and got a sake warmer, a tool specifically for warming sake. My wife gives me a rather cold look at how deep into this I am lol What are you currently obsessed with? It could be a person, an object, a place, a hobby, food—anything at all. How about we share our stories? I plan to prepare a one-page outline for us to write down our topics and discuss them. Since this is my first time organizing something like this, there might be some rough edges, but I hope you'll bear with me.

Dear Kyoto NHK-ESS members,
This is the announcement of the latter half of the practice on October 18th.

1.Genre: Vocabulary Building

2.Title: Anagram

First of all, what comes to your mind when you hear the word "anagram"? Anagrams are used for solving mysteries and ciphertexts, so they have a difficult image, don't they? But surprisingly, when you actually touch an anagram, it's very interesting and you can find it all around you. Especially for building vocabulary building, it's one of the effective ways to refine the vocabulary ability with anagrams. In the second half of the practice on October 18, we will enjoy playing the "anagram" game with you. I hope that many members will participate.

Hi, ESS members!

Here is an announcement for the latter half practice on Oct. 11th, 2025
Communication is a vital component of our society. I believe that competitive communication through conversation is one of the most important keys to updating Japan in the context of an international, AI-assisted society. So, please practice deep, impromptu speech.

Contests of conversation on various topics.
Genre: Speech
Procedures:
1) Make some groups of 3 members. If only one person is left, be the fourth member of Group One. If two people are left, Minamihashi would join your group.
2) From 17:40 to 18:00, decide on the first speaker and present a minute speech on any topic among “Light-hearted topics”, as listed on the distributed paper. Please be the timekeeper by yourself.
3) The second speaker comments and initiates conversation by asking questions on the same topic for one minute, for example, impressions, impacts, reasons, and prospects for the future.
4) The third speaker evaluates and decides the better speaker among the two speakers from the viewpoint of English and the contents within one minute in the round.
5) Change the role counterclockwise.
6) From 18:00 to 18:30, repeat the same process on “Serious topics”, as listed on the other side of the same paper.
7) At 18:30, decide the best speaker in your group.
8) From 18:32 to 18:40, the best speakers in the group report to the rest of the members briefly what he/she spoke about in the last eight minutes.
I hope you will enjoy the practice.
Yours
Osamu MINAMIHASHI
